  •   usually a numerical label
WHY...?

  • to identify sender and receiver
  • to make link between one computer to another computer
IP VERSION

IPV4
  • uses 32 bits (4 bytes) address
  • address space limits (2^32)
  • each ranging from 0 - 255
  • separated by dots (172.16.254.1)
  • 1 byte = 8 bits
IPV6
  • used 128 bits (16 bytes) address
  • supports more than 3,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

B      128 - 191
C      192 - 223
D      224 - 239 (multicasting)

SUBNETMASK

IP Subnetmask

30    = 255.255.255.252
24    = 255.255.255.0
16    = 255.255.0.0
8      = 255.0.0.0

Kiraan subnetmask
  • bila ada 255       - ip address dengan getway mesti kena sama
  • bila ada 0          - tak kisah
